John W. Butler, M.D.
John W. Butler, M.D. is a graduate of the University of Rochester, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Cell and Developmental Biology with Honors. After medical school at the University of Maryland, he served as a medical intern at Sinai Hospital / Johns Hopkins University.
He completed his specialty training in Ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania’s Scheie Eye Institute — serving as Chief Resident in his final year — followed by vitreoretinal surgery training at the Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston / Tufts University. Dr. Butler joined the practice in 2000. He previously taught at academic centers and treated patients within the Veterans Affairs (VA) health system, and has contributed to several national and international research projects.
Zaaira M. Ahmad, M.D.
Dr. Zaaira Ahmad is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon. She grew up in Pocomoke, MD, and is a proud graduate of Pocomoke High School. She continued her education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, and completed her medical education at The George Washington University School of Medicine — where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society, earned several research awards, and graduated with honors.
Following an internship at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, she returned to George Washington University for her ophthalmology residency, serving as Chief Resident, and completed her vitreoretinal subspecialty training at the prestigious Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit. She has extensive experience with complex clinical and surgical cases — particularly complicated retinal detachments and severe diabetic retinopathy. She also remains active in teaching as adjunct faculty at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional.
Travis J. Peck, M.D.
Dr. Travis Peck completed his residency at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia — the #1-ranked residency program in the nation — where he was elected Chief Resident in his final year. He went on to a two-year surgical vitreoretinal fellowship at the Retina Group of Washington / Georgetown University, and became the first fellow ever to win the Golden Apple teaching award, an honor he earned in both of his years.
Before residency, Dr. Peck graduated from the University of Delaware’s medical scholars program and earned his medical degree at the University of Virginia, posting the top score in his class in multiple courses and earning induction into Alpha Omega Alpha. A dedicated researcher, he has published more than 25 peer-reviewed papers and served as one of two editors of the latest edition of the Wills Eye Manual, the best-selling textbook in ophthalmology.
His work has appeared in JAMA, Ophthalmology, Retina, and the Journal of Vitreoretinal Diseases, and he has presented at the American Academy of Ophthalmology, ASCRS, and the Retina Society. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists, and volunteers his time providing free eye exams for underprivileged children and low-vision screenings in shelters and nursing homes.
Anthony Obeid, M.D., M.P.H.
Dr. Anthony Obeid earned his medical degree at the American University of Beirut, where his exceptional record earned him induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society. He went on to make history as one of the first international graduates ever to match into Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia — widely regarded as one of the finest ophthalmology residency programs in the nation.
He remained at Wills Eye for his vitreoretinal surgery fellowship, one of the most competitive retina programs in the country, performing more than 1,200 surgeries during his surgical year. A prolific researcher, Dr. Obeid has authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications — including groundbreaking work on patient loss to follow-up in retinal disease — and has presented at numerous national and international conferences.
Dr. Obeid also holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Sydney in Australia, where he studied the impact of public health interventions — work that continues to shape his focus on access to care and on outcomes that reach beyond the operating room.
