How it works

Light that recharges the retina.

Three precise wavelengths

Valeda delivers yellow (590 nm), red (660 nm) and near‑infrared (850 nm) light — each chosen to reach and support different layers of the retina.

Recharging the cells’ batteries

The light is absorbed by mitochondria — the tiny power plants inside retinal cells — boosting their energy production, improving oxygen use, and calming inflammation. In dry AMD, those cells are struggling for energy; Valeda addresses that directly.

Gentle by design

Eye‑safe LED light, delivered to the undilated eye while you sit comfortably. It is painless — at most a brief afterimage, like after a camera flash, fading within seconds.

The evidence

What the research showed.

In the pivotal U.S. LIGHTSITE III trial — 100 patients (148 eyes) at ten retina centers, randomized and double‑masked, with a sham (placebo‑style) treatment for comparison — Valeda met its primary goal: better vision than sham, sustained over two years of treatment.

+5.9 letters

Average vision gain from baseline at 24 months — more than a full line on the eye chart.

58%

of treated eyes gained five or more letters at 24 months; nearly one in five gained ten or more.

73% fewer

eyes developed new geographic atrophy — the advanced, vision‑destroying stage of dry AMD — over 24 months (6.8% vs 24% with sham).

First & only

FDA‑authorized treatment for dry AMD (De Novo authorization, November 2024).

Valeda vs. no treatment, side by side.

Three results from the same trial, shown simply. “Sham” means a placebo‑style session with only a trace of light — so neither patients nor doctors knew who received the real treatment.

Figures from the peer‑reviewed LIGHTSITE III 13‑ and 24‑month analyses. The trial enrolled adults 50 and older with dry AMD and vision between roughly 20/32 and 20/70. Valeda is not a treatment for wet AMD, and individual results vary — your retina specialist will determine whether you are a candidate.
